Horsing around at Home Farm!
The delightful rare breed foal was born to Mum, Blossom, at lunchtime on Friday 21st May. This is Blossom’s fourth foal and Jayne Chapman, Farm Manager, believes he is her best to date. Jayne commented “We are over the moon with Blossom and Grey Friar! He has lovely markings and a very handsome size and shape – we’re sure we have another champion on our hands.”
Grey Friar was born at the Arclid Shires & Clydesdales Stud in Church Minshull and was sired by champion stallion, Arclid Minshull Monty. Blossom has foaled at this stud on three previous occasions.
The Clydesdales are a native Scottish breed, traditionally used as a working farm horse. Their fortunes suffered a downturn with the introduction of mechanised farming, however, thanks to the dedication of breeders such as ourselves, the Clydesdale is now making a comeback.
Grey Friar and Blossom have rested at Church Minshull for a couple of weeks before returning home to Tatton on Tuesday 8th June. There was quite a turnout for his arrival, and Tatton staff and our visitors are already enjoying seeing the Mum and foal, who are both doing very well. There will be no need for the other horses to trot out advice to Blossom – she’s the perfect Mum and knows just how to keep her foal happy and content.
Visitors can see Blossom and Tatton Grey Friar in their stall in the farm during normal opening times. Tatton’s Clydedales will also be making a star turn at the annual county Cheshire Show in Tabley on Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd June. Farm staff will be showcasing the incredible strength, agility and beauty of this breed in the riding demonstration to music on both days. Home Farm poultry and rare breed Red Poll cattle will also be entering competitive classes at the show.
