Tatton Park Gains its Seventh Green Flag Award!
Tatton Park has been awarded its seventh Green Flag Award and Green Heritage Site accreditation.
The Green Flag award recognises “well managed, high quality green spaces” and is a sign to visitors that the park is well-maintained, well-managed and has excellent facilities.
Tatton Park is one of a record number of parks and green spaces receiving the Green Flag Award this year. In addition to Tatton, six locations in Cheshire East have received the Green Flag award, including Sandbach Cemetery – which is the first of its kind to win the award.
Teggs Nose Country Park, in Macclesfield, Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve, The Moor, in Knutsford, Congleton Park and Bollington Recreation Ground have all retained their awards.
In 2011, 1,288 parks and green spaces will fly either the Green Flag or Community Award, a sign that the value of green space is widely acknowledged as vital to our communities.
Operations Manager Tim Birtles said: “It is great to gain the continual Green Flag Award recognition for all the hard work which our various teams consistently put in, in order to maintain our overall standards for our visitors.”
Councillor George Walton, Chairman of the Tatton Park Board said: “We are delighted that Tatton Park has received its seventh Green Flag Award. The award recognises the hard work of the team who continue to maintain the high standards of parkland management and conservation for the benefit of our visitors. This award proves, once again, that Tatton is an extremely valuable resource for the local and wider community”
Phil Barton, Green Flag Plus Partnership chairman said: “I would like to congratulate this year’s winners, who have worked hard throughout the year to keep their parks and green spaces at a high standard and ensure they are pleasant and enjoyable spaces for the whole community.”
Only green spaces that are free to enter and open to the public are eligible to win an award through the scheme, which is run by environmental charities Keep Britain Tidy, BTCV and GreenSpace.
All award-winning sites now have the chance to receive a further award from the Green Flag Plus Partnership, the People’s Choice Award. This award is voted for by the public. Visit the Green Flag Award website now to register your vote www.greenflagaward.org.uk
Tatton Park is visited by over ¾ million people each year and was awarded Cheshire’s ‘Large Visitor Attraction of the Year’ in 2009 and 2010.
