Barn Fire on Bexton Lane

By on September 2, 2012

Just after 8.45 am the Service received calls about a barn fire in Bexton Lane, Knutsford.

On arrival crews from Knutsford found a barn measuring approximately 50 metres by 50 metres well alight and requested further support, with fire engines from Wilmslow, Northwich, Holmes Chapel, Congleton and Winsford sent to the scene. The fire had spread to hay stored in an adjacent area and the officer in charge set crews to work on all four sides of the barn using hose reel jets.

Crews also worked to stop the fire from spreading to an adjacent cornfield. A high volume pump was requested to assist with water supplies, with possible disruption to nearby roads.

Update at 10.40 am – the officer in charge reported that the fire was contained with crews concentrating on fighting the fire and stopping the smoke from spreading. Update at 11am – crews expected to have to remain at the scene for many hours but number of fire engines expected to be reduced to three shortly.

Use of the High Volume Pump is expected to cause some traffic disruption on the main A50.
