The Mere Golf Resort & Spa is calling for a ‘Parents Bank Holiday’ to reward hard-working parents.

The Mere Golf Resort and Spa in Cheshire is nominating Monday 26th November as the UK’s first ‘Parents Bank Holiday’ in recognition of hard-working parents across the country.

This follows a survey* which revealed that 73% of parents say time away from the kids is just as important as family time together, with nearly one quarter (24.8%) claiming it was critical to keeping their relationship going. Worrying though, over 60% of parents hadn’t managed to take a break in over a year.

If offered the chance of a mini-break, 68% of parents said a hotel and dinner night away would be the most important thing to look for, with over a quarter yearning for spa and pool facilities as well. The Mere Golf Resort & Spa has responded with a fantastic child-free dinner, bed and breakfast package including health club and spa facilities on Sunday 25th November, ahead of the designated bank holiday the following day.

“We’ve nominated Monday 26th November as this day represents the halfway point between the recovery for parents from the entertaining of children throughout October half term and the frantic countdown to Christmas. As a Dad to three young boys, I know how precious time away from the children is, and we want to encourage parents to come and spend a night together here at The Mere to indulge in some much deserved relaxation time,” commented Mark Boler, CEO and founder of the Mere Golf Resort & Spa.

The Mere teamed up with parents network ‘Mums in the Know’ to carry out the survey with its members. Set up originally in Wilmslow, Cheshire, the website aims to make Mums lives easier and kids lives fun by providing everything a family needs to know in their local area using local expertise and contacts giving daily inspiration for families. The site is now expanding across the UK with a network of local Mums in each area.

“We love the idea of dedicating one day a year just for parents! It seems fair that parents get time away for themselves to have the energy to create a happy home for their families. We believe taking time out for each other is really important to family life and it’s easy to lose sight of that in today’s busy world,” commented Dawn Hayes, joint founder, Mums in the Know.

To inspire parents to take one night out to indulge in their relationship, The Mere has put together a special overnight celebration package. For £198, couples can enjoy a luxurious double club room on Sunday 25th November, in the resort’s new hotel, a half an half treatment each in the Spa followed by dinner that evening in Brown’s restaurant and breakfast the following morning. Couples also have unlimited access to the state-of-the-art health club and spa.

For those wishing to celebrate further, they can also select from two ‘Mere Moments’ packages:

The Mere Romance Package includes a bottle of the exclusive Boizel champagne and a gift box of The Mere chocolates, for £45.
The Mere Relax Package offers a selection of oils x 9 miniature (3ml), a bath bomb and a selection of 6 herbal teas, for £35.

*The survey was completed by 420 Mums in the local Cheshire area.
