Knutsford hatrick duo sink South Cheshire!

By on November 15, 2010

Knutsford Men’s 3s returned to fortress Knutsford Leisure Centre on Saturday to win again at home beating South Cheshire 7 – 3 in a strange old game. One minute Knutsford 3s eclectic mix of dads, lads & inbetweeners played fantasy hockey, the next it was an ugly version of pinball on the astro, neither side putting together 3 passes in a row.

This was how the early skirmishes went; the first 15 minutes was pretty poor fare for the excitable crowd, neither side capable of anything worth a mention, but then Trenner’s Tuesday night coaching session started to become evident. Knutsford finally relaxed, played unselfish simple hockey, attacked in neat triangular 3 on 2 patterns and by half time were 5 – 0 to the good.

It was a pleasure to watch from the sidelines almost at will – Karl Stanier & Dave Rees at centre midfield fed Chris James & Dave Hickson up top who in turn laid off to the advancing halfbacks of Matt Lynes, George Nairn, Sam cunliffe & Will Hewins (the u18s unselfishly rolling on & off all game) and South Cheshire couldn’t respond, the 5 goals were all much of a much, delicious to behold, but to pick out two

Dave Hickson received the final pass and was bearing down on goal unopposed, you could see South Cheshire’s goalkeeper flinching , not fancying being nailed to the netting by a head high expert – if he could of backed away to Bexton lane he would of, but Dave Hickson calmly placed the ball to the corner and the keeper breathed a sigh of relief!

The best of the bunch however was a beautiful 3 on 2 worked by Karl Stanier, Chris James & Sam Cunliffe on the left of the D, young Matt Lynes stole in late on the blindside at right half, received the pass on the run and maturely slotted the ball home, absolute class. Trenner’s would be proud, and proof positive that those who turn up to training regularly are benefiting personally & collectively.

The second half was more of a scrappy affair interspersed with some lovely moments; the 2 highlights of course were Chris James & Matt Lynes completing their first hatricks for the club. Certainly not their last! the fact that Mat Lynes scored his 3 from right half in 35 minutes on the pitch is testament to his hockey DNA via his dad, the ex Timperley stalwart Andy Lynes who himself was solid again at sweeper.

Thanks go to Joel Evans for umpiring with consistent authority – and back at the club all was smiles, the team revelling in the 2 hatricks & our heroes expectantly awaited a pair of jugs, but hands stayed firmly in pockets so the barmaid didn’t oblige.

Next Saturday will be a sterner test as we entertain Deeside Ramblers Men’s 6s. As a club we are yet to beat any Deeside Ramblers outfit this term. Maybe, just maybe….
