Tri-mendous season for KTC

By on December 21, 2010

One of Knutsford’s newest sporting clubs, Knutsford Triathlon Club had their busiest day of the year on Saturday despite the snow and icy conditions.

Their first annual swimming gala was held at Knutsford Leisure Centre, and they then held their first Christmas party at the Samrab Thai Restaurant and Bar on Saturday.

The swimming gala was a terrific success, with 24 members taking part in 9 race events, and recently joined member Abi Kubiak scooped the top prize on the day after finishing runner up in 3 events and winning 2.

With the gala completed, it was onto the Samrab Thai restaurant for the inaugural Christmas party. Owner Phil Day had very kindly booked out the entire bar and restaurant exclusively for the club, and laid on a tremendous buffet meal for all 45 attendees who braved the conditions.

Following some very generous donations from many sports companies including Running Bear, Xtramile Events,, Royles, Tri-central, Madison and SBR, the club held a charity raffle with all proceeds going to local charity, the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust.

The evening was rounded off by a visit from the members of Knutsford Rugby Club who came along and sang a few classic Christmas carols, as only they could.

With the club in only its first year, Chairman Robin Maxwell reported that with 45 members already, the committee had been blown away by the response to the creation of the club. He reported that the club had doubled in size compared to their initial predictions and were continuing to grow in both membership and training sessions. He thanked all the members for their input, involvement and attendance at the events, and thanked all the committee members for all the efforts throughout the year. Particular thanks on the day went to Mark Hudson for arranging the gala, Frazer Lloyd Jones for arranging the Christmas party and Laura Thursby who had arranged the charity raffle
