Rangers sieze victory after loosing streak
After a 1-4 loss to Rudheath Social Club in mid week that put Cranford out of the title race and with six regulars sidelined through injury, the Knutsford side took on third place Ark at Manchester Road on Sunday looking to recover from their bad run of recent results.
Cranford started well, and when they kept their passing short, produced several good passages of play through Long, Barnhill, Smart and Simcock with Steve Simcock opening the scoring from inside the opponents box to make it 1-0 at half time. Deeley replaced Clayton on 55 minutes and created numerous chances for the Cranford forwards as they took control of the game.
Steve Simcock scored the second after good work from Birtles and in reality; the score line should have been six after several good chances were missed. Full back Williams found himself in the Ark penalty area on numerous occasions and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet. Evans and Ellis replaced Beattie and Taviner (who had fine games) and Evans combined with Barnhill for the third. Ark scored a consolation goal with minutes remaining.
With so many changes and carrying several players with knocks, it was a good performance from Cranford and a credit to all of the players involved. Five games to play in the next 3 weeks with Cranford aiming for third place
