Welsh Internationals give support at pre season training weekend – Video report included

By on July 20, 2009

Knutsford RFC kicked off their pre season training with a fantastic 2 day session at Egerton. A mix of Knutsford’s regular 1sts and 2nds as well as a few new faces, were taken through various aspects of the game by some first class coaches – Jeremy Pugh (ex Wales International Prop), John Griffiths (ex Wales International Scrum Half) and Andy Morgs (Scarlets youth development coach).
After a 12 week break from rugby, Friday night saw the guys being reminded what a rugby ball looked like! Once they had found their hands again, John and Andy worked with the guys on some handling drills and then moving into game practice with some team runs.
That night the Welsh boys were taken out and shown the delights of the Knutsford social scene. Despite some tender heads, everyone regrouped on Saturday, bright and early and split into forwards and backs. Jeremy took the forwards through set plays, helping them tighten their scrum and significantly improve the lineout, while the backs worked on some new exciting attacking set plays and a strong focus on their defensive game plan.
Commenting on the weekend, Mark Todman (1st team manager) said, “This has been a fantastic weekend, with some priceless training and tips from top coaches and ex international players. We have had a complete mix of boys here from all ages and everyone has benefited significantly from this weekend.

There was a key focus on areas we identified last year as needing improvement and also, this was a great chance to get some of the younger members of the squad rub shoulders with some of the top players in the game. We will now take everything we have learnt from the weekend into the rest of our pre season training and get ready for a great 2009-10 season.”
With another of these weekends planned for September, KRFC is a perfect place for anyone wanting to get involved in a great social and progressive club. Skills training is at 7.30pm at Egerton on a Thursday, with a fantastic core fitness session at the same time and place on a Monday.
