Tight on court battle for Knutsford
The Seconds injury woes continued with the absence of Grog (arm), Uttley (calf and retired), Russell (calf) and Walt (pain in the neck).
However they won their third match of the season, collecting maximum points, though it was against a weakened Bollington team.
The match got off to a worrying start when Evo, playing at 5th string and just back from injury (calf again), went down 0-9 in the first game. However, he bounced back to win the next 3 comfortably. In the meantime on the other court Whitaker (2nd string) was battling away in a somewhat messy match.
However, his focus and consistency took him through to win 3 games to 1. Young John Ward was on next, keen to make up for his recent run of poor results. This is the stage in the report where the authors newly developed Matchreport-o-matic programme proves its worth (Evo didn’t see any of the game, due to marking on the next court).
Ward played it tight and deep, took the ball early and dominated the T throughout – result 3-0. Well, perhaps Matchreport-o-matic still needs a few tweaks. Next on was Smithy (thanks for turning up at the last minute).
Power, enthusiasm and determination were the order of the day as Smithy blasted his opponent off court in straight games. Over to Matchreport-o-matic again: Waring played it tight and deep, took the ball early and dominated the T throughout – result 3-0.
